ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the immediate recognition, response and care of an adult person when their condition is deteriorating. The chapter explores skills relevant to managing airway obstruction, breathlessness, circulatory problems and disability assessment and unconsciousness. Some relevant skills are discussed in the other chapters of this book, so you can refer to them as appropriate. Chapter 4 includes monitoring vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation and blood pressure) and neurological assessment including ACVPU and the Glasgow coma scale (GCS).
