ABSTRACT

This chapter has highlighted throughout the importance of nutrition and hydration for the maintenance of health. Health care workers are in an excellent position to screen people for nutritional risk as part of their assessment and should work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to identify and implement strategies to meet the differing nutritional needs of individuals. Nutrition and hydration should be considered at all times when caring for a person as adequate nutrition and hydration can improve well-being thus improving outcomes. This chapter has included general principles that apply across a range of ages and settings. However, nutrition is a vast subject; you are encouraged to undertake further reading to enhance your knowledge and skills.
