ABSTRACT

This summary chapter describes how Trump’s policies are shaped by his personality and speculates about what we can expect from Trump in the future. Trump’s self-esteem depends on how he is valued by significant others. He must continue to satisfy his base, but he is able to pursue policies that dissatisfy traditional Republicans because he knows they have no alternatives. Trump’s narcissism, his grandiosity, and bluffing behavior function as a defense against the vulnerability of his needs for approval and adulation. The chapter also describes the impacts of Trump’s policies.
