ABSTRACT

This chapter is focused on scenarios, narrative shifts, and weak signals relating to COVID-19. We articulate four scenarios: the zombie apocalypse, the needed pause, global health awakening, and the great despair. These possible futures all remain possible for the current crisis and future pandemics even as the world searches for solutions. Framing solutions, the desired future is based on the narratives we use. These include more restrictive narratives where we blame others to transformative narrative where we attempt to change self and society. We conclude with weak signals – or emerging issues that may change future trajectories (from example from GDP to well-being) – and transition strategies to a transformed world.
