ABSTRACT

Future-making in contemporary culture has emphasized progress—the idea that we must constantly evolve, grow, or scale ad infinitum. In this chapter, we re-frame future-making through an exploration of a shift we call From/Toward. We introduce future-making as awareness-based collective creativity and situate our work within parameters (i.e., where, what, who, and how) of a studio-based practice toward social futures. We reflect on aspects of our experiences of co-created future-making over four years in multiple contexts. We conclude by connecting a studio practice with everyday life future-making.
