ABSTRACT

Born in the late nineteenth century, Nicolas Politis played a major role in the socio-political scene of his time not only as a French academic, theorist, and expert but also as a Greek diplomat, politician, and an international arbiter and lawyer. In doing so, he intervened at three levels of action, that of France, Greece and new international institutions in The Hague, Paris, and Geneva. This chapter looks at some of the traditions that Politis helped to create in international justice.
