ABSTRACT

As a recent neologism, InsurTech has not received as much attention as its better-known sibling, FinTech. This collection of technologies for digitally innovating the insurance industry has yet to make any significant impact, though it is widely believed to have immense potential for challenging the status quo in the sector. The limited academic recognition and applicable scenario lead initiatives to explore InsurTech’s distinctive affordance in the academic context and its disruptive role in business environment. The chapter presents a scoping introduction, which facilitates a narrative of the links between agent, business and customer, and artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing in the context of digital innovation. The goal is to present values born with InsurTech to individuals and organisations, and to detail future visions concerning its developmental impacts on industry.
