ABSTRACT

Logistics oriented retail is involved when the focus of daily business is the organisation of the flow of goods. Sales oriented retail is involved when the focus in the business process is organising and pacing the flow of customers. The most important statistical classification criteria for goods retail are firstly the criteria for functional and institutional retail, and secondly the criteria for types of goods. Classification by types of goods is used by the Statistics Netherlands in the Maandstatistiek Detailhandel. In 2012 more than 3.4% of all goods retail in Europe went through the online channel, the supposed e-tail sales. In 2012 6% of all goods retail in the Netherlands went through the online channel, the supposed e-tail sales. More important than the classification in chain stores and small and medium enterprises is the classification based on legal forms of cooperation.
