ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the challenges associated with the tricky post-transfer phase for external buyers. It provides an overview of the existing forms of support provided to external buyers during this phase and highlights the effectiveness of individualised and external tutoring. Business transfers are extremely challenging for companies, as ownership and management discontinuities disrupt work routines, generate employee insecurity and may hinder organisational performance. An external takeover can lead to negative reactions from stakeholders in the company environment. Lack of knowledge of industry practices, lack of technical or managerial skills, or lack of ability to manage a business network may make it difficult for buyers to maintain links with their key partners. The chapter aims to take stock of the specific difficulties encountered by external buyers after a transfer and to propose relevant support measures. Concerning tutoring, the effectiveness of this support was only assessed in the short term, based on the satisfaction of the buyers who received this support.
