ABSTRACT

Every faithful Jew cherishes the vision; but the interpretation of it varies with the soul that cherishes it. Some postpone its fulfilment to a remote future ; others look for its speedy coming, even declaring that it is already in sight. But, however much Zionist and non-Zionist may differ, they agree on one point: both hold that the hoped-for regeneration of Israel can be no automatic process, irrespective of any merit in the Jew himself. In the presence of the representatives of Great Britain, the liberator, and her allies, and of the world’sthree great religions, the foundations of a Jewish university were laid on Mount Scopus, in Jerusalem. A Jewish University will set the hallmark of the spirit upon Jewish life, both in Palestine and elsewhere.
