ABSTRACT

Many elements go to make the spell of the Spring landscape—the fresh green of hill and meadow, the bravery of the flowers, the glint of the stream—but most of the magic is wrought by the trees. Their beauty at this Springtime is one of the greatest delights that Nature has in her storehouse. The soul must indeed be dead that does not thrill in response to the call of the trees in these halcyon days. The Bible is full of the wonder of the trees. For its poets and preachers they had a message whose eloquence never failed. The trees, casting a grateful shade in the summer heat, bearing fruit for human sustenance and delight, are favourite examples in the Bible of the Divine goodness extended to all living creatures, both great and small. They are the coverts of the beasts, the home, the music-room, of the birds.
