ABSTRACT

At the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War World Congress hosted by Medact in York in September 2017, members of French Physicians Against Nuclear Weapons discussed the situation in relation to nuclear weapons with other affiliates from nuclear weapons states. Humanitarian consequences from the nuclear threat take place even now, including for our own population, because of some accidents at nuclear stockpiles or nuclear military waste sites. Finally, Association Des Medecins Francais pour la Prevention de la Guerre Nucleaire is involved, as a scientific expert on French nuclear tests, in advocacy for the rights of the victims of those tests in the Sahara and in Polynesia. The national commission assists military and civilian victims to assert their rights in partnership with the associations of nuclear test veterans. For the first time, some victims of nuclear testing from civilian populations in Polynesia and Algeria took compensation as official recognition of health consequences from French nuclear testing.
