ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book demystifies the historical research process by breaking it down into individual steps, from developing questions to presenting conclusions. It emphasizes the fact that the research process rarely, if ever, follows a straight line. The book explores the methods of research, and introduces some of the different specialized fields where historians conduct research. It seeks to deepen our understanding of history as a complex discipline, and inspires new ideas for our own research adventures. The book includes real-world examples drawn from the realm of highly-esteemed professional historians, and research experiences of students at other colleges and universities.
