ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Dr. Lisa Hanasono chronicles key moments when she experienced and responded to racial discrimination as an Asian American cisgender woman living in the United States. From everyday microaggressions to blatantly racist acts, she shares how anti-Asian biases are communicated in different interpersonal contexts. She also highlights the complexities of responding to racial discrimination as a cisgender woman of color and the importance of allyship, social support, and collective action in reducing hate and stopping prejudiced communication.
