ABSTRACT

This creative, critical case study uses performance texts or monologues to explore the social issue of healthcare and race during an ongoing pandemic, including how racism and preexisting conditions disproportionately affects African Americans. While the characters are imagined they are informed by experiences either real or imagined based upon the author’s knowledge of the coronavirus, the history of healthcare for African Americans, the interrelationships between parent and adult child, and patient and healthcare worker as well as the individual lived experiences of African American healthcare workers and African American patients.
