ABSTRACT

Palliative care and physical activity have a growing body of evidence for clinical outcomes and improving quality of life. This foundation has the potential for a variety of innovations related to future opportunities to provide patient-centered, meaningful care. These innovations may include unique uses of virtual reality for simulating meaningful life events or other physical activity measures using activity tracking devices. In addition, due to the rapid expansion of telehealth procedures, there is a great opportunity to use this to provide physical activity and rehabilitative measures. In addition, the integration and proliferation of electronic medical records provide another opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration and predictive analytics via analysis of meta-data. Finally, remarkable innovations in managing medical issues that were previously terminal provide an opportunity for therapists to play a supportive role for these individuals who would have previously died from their conditions.
