ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to analyze the epigraphic curve of the Fayum Oasis. In contrast to significant Greek poleis, such as Delphi or Ephesos, where epigraphic material was mass-produced and constitutes the main source of information, only 747 inscriptions written in both Greek and Egyptian languages originate from the Fayum. However, based on the preserved evidence, this study offers insight into the epigraphic habit of the region, which sat on the outskirts of the western Mediterranean world in antiquity.
