ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to present and comment upon the epigraphic curves from Boiotia and those cities from the region that produced the greatest number of inscriptions – Thespiai, Tanagra, Oropos and Thebes. The peak of the curve occurs in the third c. BCE, during its second half. The number of texts drops in the first half of the second c. BCE, simultaneously with the advent of Rome in mainland Greece. We can observe some slight growth over the following centuries, especially with regards to tituli honorarii; however the frequency of epigraphic material never reaches the levels of the third and second c. BCE.
