ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the epigraphic habit of the North-West Pontic region. The research is carried out on the basis of the statistical analysis of the epigraphic material collected from four Greek poleis, which include two Ionian poleis – Olbia Pontike and Istros – and two Doric poleis – Kallatis and Mesambia. The epigraphic curve demonstrated in the paper is interpreted with regard to the history as well as the political and economic development of these cities.
