ABSTRACT

Although Masters athletes (MAs) exhibit greater physical, social, cognitive, and psychological health than age-matched inactive peers, they still demonstrate age-related decreases in endurance, speed, and power, and strength performance. Building on Chapter 3, this chapter focuses on age-related changes in cardiovascular and muscle structure and function that contribute to MAs’ performance, as well as relevant performance factors including recovery, balance, bone structure, flexibility, and heat tolerance.
