ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the extent to which Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and the African Union (AU) in general promote migration on the African continent and how this implicates on integration in the same. The formation of an Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) means that economic and related policies of integrating countries are governed by supranational institutions. The AU has developed two policy frameworks so as to address the issue of migration on the African continent, and these are the Migration Policy Framework for Africa (MPFA) and the African Common Position on Migration and Development (ACPMD). The origins of Southern African Development Co-ordinating (SADC) can be traced to the Southern African Development Co-ordinating Conference (SADCC) whose objective was to reduce economic dependence on apartheid South Africa and by these means contribute to the liberation of those countries which were still under oppression.
