ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the Black Lives Matter protest following the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott on September 10–12 in Charlotte, NC. It deals with Hong Kong concerning the public protests that lasted for the entire year of 2020 and continues in a smaller form as this book is being written. The book also discusses the sidewalk vendors in Iran who dynamically navigate between urban space and social media to sell goods over three months in the summer of 2019. A thematic analysis of vendor interviews and an exploratory analysis of their social media accounts shows how they make their living in both social media and urban space. The book focuses on patrons’ immersive experiences of underground restaurants. The use of social media is not often extensive or vital to notify patrons of an upcoming dinner.
