ABSTRACT

Chapter 9 focuses on Banksy installations, The Girl with the Pierced Eardrum in Bristol, England and a month-long residency in New York City in 2020. The methods of analysis include topic modelling of tweets, and clustering of images. The clear beginning to these events is important, as well as the connection to the local community and to a distant, digital audience. Secondary events related to the relocation, preservation, or erasure of the installations play out over a longer time frame. The engagement of social media is prominent in all the installations although it shifts in focus from discovery to announcement.
