ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the massacre at the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand on March 15, 2019. The methods of analysis include topic modelling and qualitative analysis of tweets in response to the shooting. This event has a dual reading, one based on the white supremacist online community connected to the assassin and the other on the reaction of those sympathetic to the victims and values of diversity and inclusion. The discussion on social media reinforces the role of the mosque as a location for solidarity and healing that was of central importance to the local community.
