ABSTRACT

This chapter seeks to reimagine Zimbabwe outside Robert Mugabe's popular sloganeering, which some scholars have defined as the mentality and concept of Mugabeism. In his speeches, locally, President Mugabe would normally begin by revisiting the past and highlighting the sacrifices of the liberation struggle, emphasising enemies and condemning many discontented voices. The chapter highlights the Bible provides a useful context for analysing Mugabe's politics, as well as the potential for reconstruction beyond Mugabe's sloganeering. In this case, the reading of the Saul-David debacle can resonate with the end of Mugabe's rule and the ascension of Mnangagwa. The chapter traces the Zimbabwean crisis, from the concept of Mugabeism, highlighted the resemblance with the ancient Israelite narratives with interest on the succession narratives and even more, exposing that the November 2017 epoch of Zimbabwean history gives an opportunity for reconstruction.
