ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts presents in the subsequent chapters. This part discusses the property of uniqueness, and landscapes are given high ratings when judged to be wild, spectacular, and natural as contrasted to man-created scenes of construction or urbanization. The ultimate human test of man’s actions and changes of the natural environment rests in the hands of the courts and the legal processes that can be brought to bear when the issue is in contention. The properties of wilderness, beauty, and pleasurable aesthetics of the landscape are generally viewed as ends in themselves and necessary ingredients for the spirit of man and his salvation: One cannot state the degree to which man is dependent upon some contact with wild nature and natural environments. Man influences the environment, and in turn, is influenced by it. The values of scenery have also left their imprint.
