ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the aims and structure of the book and places the contributions of the edited volume in broader debates in the three fields of political theory, international relations, and European Union studies. The introductory chapter discusses the contribution of the volume to these debates and elaborates the different types of conflict addressed in the book, ranging from border disputes to power vacuums and humanitarian crises. Finally, this chapter summarises the different contributions to the volume.
