ABSTRACT

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is committed to using evidence to inform decision-making and improve the quality of the criminal justice system. As one example among many, DCJS supports and promotes the use of evidence-based strategies to address firearm violence through a comprehensive and coordinated set of programs that includes a robust network of crime analysis centers, the SNUG Street Outreach program, the Gun Involved Violence Elimination Initiative and a pilot program to increase clearances for non-fatal shooting cases. This chapter will describe DCJS’s efforts to implement and support evidence-based decision-making statewide, including a discussion of lessons learned along the way.
