ABSTRACT

This longitudinal study examines change over time from childhood through adolescence in Thai parents’ behaviors in four domains (warmth, behavioral control, rules/limit-setting, and knowledge solicitation) over a period of 11 years, from when the child is 7 until the age of 18. Participants included 120 children, their mothers, and their fathers. The Parental Acceptance-Rejection/Control Questionnaire-Short Form and Parental Monitoring Scale were completed by children, mothers, and fathers. Data were analyzed by multilevel modeling via the PROC MIXED procedure in SAS 9.4. All four domains of parenting decreased in frequency over time after age 10. Fathers’ age at the time of the child’s birth and parental education were related to some parenting trajectories, but mothers’ age at the time of the child’s birth and child gender were not.
