ABSTRACT

Over its 20-year history, the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (CCGHR) has engaged individuals and institutions in Canada and globally to create and mobilize knowledge that addresses health inequities. Responsiveness to these complex issues required organization, leadership, resources, programming engagement and scholarship. This chapter describes the historical context for the creation of the CCGHR and provides information on the range of activities and collaborations that helped to inspire work on the CCGHR Principles. These initiatives include the development of tools and resources, leadership and mentorship, research programs, capacity-strengthening activities (including health systems), national and international networks and harmonization efforts.
