ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the World Health Organization’s Urban HEART (Health Equity Assessment and Response Tool) as a prime example of authentic partnering and shared benefits – two of the Canadian Coalition of Global Health’s Research Principles. Through this examination of Urban HEART implementation in various cities, it is evident there are three main beneficiaries of the partnership between researchers and policy-maker: cities, researchers and policy-makers. Despite challenges, these partnerships are truly a “win-win-win-win” scenario; with the first a win for cities, the second for researchers, the third for policy-makers and the fourth as a future win – opportunities to overcome obstacles together.
