ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book argues that greater economic cooperation with state governments would continue to be the fulcrum of Israel’s engagements with India. It suggests that Israel’s evolving position in the regional geo-political framework and the region’s view of India, and the promise of the positive role it can play in West Asian affairs, colour their appreciation of India–Israel ties. The book examines Israel’s relationship with the other big Asian power, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), given that both PRC and India established diplomatic ties with Israel at about the same time. It discusses the most important takeaway for India’s military in the long term should relate to the domain of ideas and innovations, of which crack Israeli Defence Force outfits like Unit 8200 are prime examples.
