ABSTRACT

The Israeli military has been tested through the entire range of conflict from the conventional to the asymmetric since its inception in May 1948. While balanced India–Israel military cooperation in the fullest sense is unlikely to fructify for well-understood reasons, the commercial aspect of the relationship has begun to boom, with the Indian land forces, like the sister services, becoming major customers of the Israeli defence industry. Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicles manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries are the mainstay of the Indian Army’s aerial surveillance operations, with larger numbers being inducted progressively. Apart from the pertinent details of the military dimensions of the India–Israel relationship, the most important takeaway for India’s military would in the long term, and pertains to the domain of ideas and innovations, of which Israel has proved to be a repository.
