ABSTRACT
The UK is a nation with a long maritime tradition and has played a pivotal role in the development of maritime safety legislation for a considerable time. This chapter looks at the main sources of UK maritime safety law and the way they are implemented and enforced nationally. The picture which emerges is one of a complex network of statutes and statutory instruments with a great deal of attention to the prevention of maritime accidents and detailed focus on liabilities.
