ABSTRACT
This essay engages the notions imagined and experienced space and place as a crucial dimension of the Salzburg Academy experience, with a particular focus on how the translation between in-person-situated engagements connects to persistent dispersed networks. Places gain meaning when we collectively and individually feel a sense of connection to them. Places anchor memories. Places serve as points of departure for many aspirations. Places also are where the civic imagination often gets staged. From field trips to talent shows, Shresthova explores how both formal and informal Academy programming supports embodied, place-based participatory connections and how these shared experiences then support the creation and layering of an expansive mediated Salzburg community.
