ABSTRACT
The key focus of this chapter is analyzing the way in which US-Iraq relations have influenced the diaspora’s engagements toward the homeland. On this basis, the chapter’s discussions will be first about US policy toward Iraq and the Iraqi diaspora, and second about the diaspora’s activities directed to its homeland. The US policy is divided into three different phases. The first starts with the independence of Iraq and ends with the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990. The second phase starts with the occupation of Kuwait and ends in 2003 with the US-led invasion of the homeland of the diaspora. The phase from 2003 to date has been the third phase in which a new version of strategic partnership has been set up between the diaspora and its host state through new initiatives and engagements.
