ABSTRACT

The field of diaspora diplomacy is marred by a conceptual anarchy of terms, definitions, theoretical frameworks, approaches, methodologies, research questions, and ideas. The problem is the lack of communication and agreement about the field within disciplines let alone between disciplines. This chapter examines existing research on DD in terms of concepts, approaches, and frameworks for analysis. It evaluates theories and knowledge development and accumulation and suggests directions and agenda for future research. The chapter includes five sections: concepts and definitions, theoretical frameworks, diaspora diplomacy and public diplomacy, comparative analysis, and future directions.
