ABSTRACT

The Indian diaspora, constituting more than 28 million people across the world, is diverse and heterogeneous, yet retains strong ties with the homeland. The vast resources, global skills, and talent of the Indian diaspora are considered important resources by the Government of India, which has introduced initiatives to leverage them for domestic development. This chapter examines policies, networks and events created to encourage and facilitate diaspora engagement. Overall, the diasporic communities nurture a strong desire to witness their homeland grow and develop. With their investments, sharing of new technologies and skills, and sharing of knowledge, the Indian diaspora has acted as an integral part of India’s development and progress.
