ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we examine the intersections of literacies that are created within service-learning and the development of adolescent identities. At this intersection of disciplinary knowledge and adolescents, emerging identities are treated as resources and the achievement of these embedded identities are seen as accomplishments. An examination of service-learning is followed by a discussion of adolescent identity development used within academic disciplines. This leads us to braiding service-learning and identity development within literacy contexts.
