ABSTRACT

As an island nation, The Bahamas is not just one island, but rather a chain of islands and cays stretching over 250,000 square miles. This textbook examines myriad issues of development, governance, and sustainability and how it has been able to weave a colourful tapestry throughout the Islands over the years. The collection of authors presenting has been able to expertly take the reader on a scholarly journey of facts, conjecture, and opinions on many a topic. Each in their own way has lamented on successive government’s intentional concentration on development to satisfy the people of The Bahamas, governance and policy decisions that sometimes generated much debate, and in recent years, a focused approach to issues of sustainability, resilience, and natural disasters.

Approaches to diversifying the economy of The Bahamas, by way of the Blue Economy, the introduction of a Marijuana Agro-Tourism Habitat, or a closer examination of the ‘experience economy’, are also highlighted. No matter the focus, tourism remains the driving force of the economy of The Bahamas and as such will require a constant look through the lenses of the world on how to keep it at its peak and the leaders in the Caribbean.
