ABSTRACT

This introductory chapter presents the significance, aims and overview of the book, highlighting the complexities of home for social work. The book is positioned within an intersectional frame that considers how home can be diversely experienced, imagined and understood. Consistent with this approach, we reflect on our own privileged social positions and understandings of home. This book discusses important social work considerations associated with building a sense of home, especially when home is disrupted by experiences of violence, abuse and forced dislocations.
