ABSTRACT

Miri Talmon studies the plot of combat pilot Yadin, in the Israeli drama series Betipul (2005–2008), comparing his story arc with its adaptation to that of the combat pilot character in the first season of the American In Treatment (2008). Studying how the Israeli pilot’s post-traumatic televisual therapy narrative was adapted to the American cultural context both sheds light on the internal cultural dynamics of trauma and the nation on Israeli television, or on how national banality (Moran, following Billig) is articulated in such quality drama on the one hand, and on the other, it provides insights into the intercultural interface of television drama exported from one cultural context and adapted to another.
