ABSTRACT

Theatres and venues should be a place of acceptance and inclusion. Learning disabled audiences should feel welcomed, and represented in what they are seeing. This Short explores the experience of one learning disabled audience member, and their opinion on theatres’ and venues’ attempts to address disability and engage disabled audiences. Written during the UK’s Covid-19 lockdown, a time when disability arts communities have become more and more isolated due to the crisis, it provides an opportunity to think and plan ahead to ensure a sustainable future for disability and inclusive arts in the UK through and after the pandemic.
