ABSTRACT

The contribution of Ancient Indian Mathematics can be divided into the following categories: zero and the place value notation for numbers, Vedic mathematics and arithmetical operations, Sulya sutras, astronomy, algebra, trigonometry, analysis. This chapter intends to trace the origin and evolution of these ideas and concepts chronologically from the Vedic period onwards. A link to other civilisations regarding exchange of ideas and comparison between them with regard to the concepts are also the focus of the chapter.
