ABSTRACT

India’s first medical college, Medical College of Bengal (Estd. 28 January 1835) was affiliated with the London University. Dr Mountford Joseph Bramley (1803–1837) was the first principal of Medical College of Bengal. He did his MRCS in 1825, and came to India, in 1826. He is considered to be the pioneering figure in the field of endocrinology in India. He died very early at the age of only 34 in 1837, and was buried in the North Park Street Cemetery at Calcutta. But, in course of time, this great person has fallen into oblivion in the history of medical science in India.
