ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the relation between economic and political inequality in Kant’s political writings, particularly in his attempt to build a systematic, metaphysical theory of a republic – an attempt echoed by innumerous contemporary theorists, though they all reject the metaphysical character. The authors think it is possible to consider this relationship through a discussion and reformulation of Kant’s original position. To do so, they first elaborate on said position and then discuss four strategies that may allow one to tackle the problem in accordance with a reformulated Kantian stance.
