ABSTRACT

In Norway two reform bills which revive the question of the freedom of choice for the student have recently been passed. The first of these concerns a new framing of the general secondary school for the age group 16–19. The curriculum that has been worked out for this school level sets up:

a common core of compulsory study material that all students are required to work on,

certain frames for the optional study material from which the class or the individual student can choose. This choice can be made according to special interests, qualifications or needs or according to special conditions in the local milieu of the school.
