ABSTRACT
All institutions and agencies engaged in distance education have benefited and acquired enhanced respectability from the worldwide attention that the U.K. Open University has attracted by its success. One benefit has been a new impetus for research which has already strengthened and expanded the conceptual framework on which distance education is based.
