ABSTRACT

This chapter explores Audre Lorde’s teachings of the erotic and how by tapping into it as a source of power, Black Christians can reclaim a sensuality and sexuality that is uniquely their own. Because most available resources about religious trauma focus on individuals who’ve left Christianity, this chapter offers an option for those who want to keep a relationship with their faith by simultaneously interrogating its foundations and examining cultural context by using aspects of narrative therapy and mindfulness to author their stories. In using these tools, readers gain an understanding of how Black Christians can still honor God and their sexuality by learning to integrate the two.
