ABSTRACT

Polyamory is presented as a form of sexual freedom that can be expressed by any person; however, there is a divide between Black and White poly communities, and this divide must be acknowledged in order to support Black people pursuing polyamory. Sex counselors, therapists, coaches, and other sexuality professionals can create spaces that support sexual freedom among Black men and women, rather than perpetuating damaging stereotypes. For this case study, an educative approach was used to support a couple navigating through this new world together and to create a space to discuss their values and beliefs around sex, race, and relationships. Being Black and poly creates a freedom that couples are tapping into without shame and with support from their partners.
